| I don't have a direct contract with an insurance company. There are many reasons for this. The main one is that the work between me and my client is a relationship and I don't want insurance companies, third parties, involved in our work. Involving insurance companies jeopardizes confidentiality because your diagnosis (which is required for insurance billing), treatment dates, and sometimes session notes are information that your insurance company can access and then become part of your permanent medical history. | ||||
| Another reason I am a privately paid counselor is that insurance companies require me to provide an ICD diagnosis for billing purposes. Most of my clients do not come to me with a diagnosable illness, but are healthy people who are going through a difficult time and need additional support. | ||||
| An important third aspect is prompt support. In an acute crisis situation, you do not have to apply to your health insurance provider for reimbursement and wait for approval. And then you also have the problem that treatment places that are covered by health insurance are often not available when you need them. | ||||
| By working here, you are investing in yourself. This can improve several aspects of your life, e.g. your self-esteem, your sense of happiness, your mental and emotional health and your relationships. | ||||
